A Systematic Review and the Analysis of Quality Indicator of Single-Subject Research on Reading Comprehension Intervention for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

The purpose of this study is to review current trends of research and characteristic of reading comprehension intervention in single-subject studies for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and to evaluate the quality indicator of published single-subject design to increase reading comprehension For the purpose, peer-reviewed articles were systematically searched and a total of 18 articles were collected based on the criteria of selection. these studies were analyzed in terms of participants, setting, research design, independent variables, dependent variables, and quality indicators. The results were as followed. Most studies were targeting elementary and middle school students and high function ASD. Teacher-directed strategy and graphic organizer strategy were mainly used to increase reading comprehension of ASD. 82% of studies were met criteria of quality indicator. Quality indicator of dependent variables, reliability, and external validity were met highly in analysis. Based on the result, the implication for reading comprehension intervention for ASD was discussed.
